Spiritual Detoxification

By Kristin Baldonado

Yesterday my hubby informed me that he was detoxifying his system with a special concoction he had picked up at the vitamin store. We talked about what benefits he expected to feel from the detoxification. He said it actually cleans every vital organ in your body. It also removes all the build up of toxins in your system and in your intestines. I was asking him why he needs something to help with that, why our bodies wouldn't naturally do that on their own. I know God made us to function just the way He wanted, so wouldn't he cause our bodies to eliminate the toxins that are not healthy or needed?

His answer struck me...he said that it is because we take in so many more contaminants, so many chemicals in our food, so many more toxic things just in our daily life, even when we breathe or live it gets absorbed through our pores. We do not consume what was intended for our bodies, instead we eat processed, depleted foods and live in a toxic environment. So we have to help our bodies to release all that junk.

Ok, well he was talking naturally, physically, but I was thinking about the spiritual aspect of what he was saying.

How much toxic junk has permeated our spirits? How much depressing, oppressing and overwhelming situations have been taken on by us? How many lies, deceit, self serving motives have we carried? How many broken relationships, inappropriate thoughts and actions, low self esteem have we taken as our own? How many disappointments and hurts have disrupted the one time balanced life we once lived? What kind of junk are we carrying?

I know we pray, we go to church, we worship, we talk things out with our spouses and our friends, we apply the word to our situations...then why doesn't the toxic level drop, why don't we feel "clean and new"? Why are we still holding onto past hurts and anger? Why oh why is there not that "Peace that surpasses all understanding?"

We need to detoxify our spirit man, we need a special concoction created specifically for us...

What will detoxify me today? what will bring a fresh touch from Him? A fresh start, a new beginning?

For every person its different, yet the same...

For me today its to surrender....

Very beautifully put. We could all use a spiritual cleansing.
